MBEW Material Valuation

The MBEW table in SAP represents Material Valuation data. It contains valuation-related information for materials, such as valuation price, valuation class, and stock value. The table is structured by material and valuation area (e.g., plant or company code), making it essential for managing inventory valuation and financial reporting in SAP.

MBEW is closely related to MBEWH (Material Valuation: History), as they both deal with material valuation but serve different purposes:

• MBEW (Material Valuation): This is the main table that stores the current valuation data for materials, such as valuation price, stock quantity, and valuation class, organized by material and valuation area.
• MBEWH (Material Valuation History): This table stores historical valuation data for materials. It is used to track changes in material valuation across periods, such as adjustments in valuation price or stock value over time.

Key Relationship between MBEW and MBEWH:

• The MBEW table holds the current valuation data, while the MBEWH table captures the historical data.
• The relationship is based on the Material Number (MATNR) and Valuation Area (BWKEY).
• MBEWH also includes Fiscal Year (GJAHR) and Period (MONAT) fields to organize historical data by time.
• Note that a new record in MBEWH is only created when there was a change in valuation. If, in a given period, there was no change in quantity, price or valuation method no new record is created. If you want to report changes over time, you’ll have to create the datapoints for each month. This is the biggest complexity when working with the material valuation tables.

This relationship ensures that SAP can provide both real-time valuation data and a historical audit trail for reporting and compliance purposes.

SAP table MBEW has 4 primary key fields being MANDT,MATNR,BWKEY,BWTAR.

If you are only analysing data from a single SAP instance you may omit field MANDT in your relationships as it will be the same across the entire dataset. On the other hand, if you are combining data from multiple SAP instances you need to take MANDT into account.
