The Norwegian telematics platform for vans, machines and tools.

ABAX is a Norwegian telematics company, founded in 2008 in Larvik and active in Belgium from its office in Diegem. The platform has three parts: ABAX Fleet for vehicle tracking and the electronic trip log, ABAX Worksite for machines and equipment (position, operating hours, fuel level and utilisation) and ABAX Locator for tool tracking with small Bluetooth trackers. Its customers are mostly construction and infrastructure firms, landscapers and equipment rental companies. Facility managers, utilities and transport companies use it too.

Vehicles and machines report through an ABAX unit or, with ABAX Smart Connect, straight from the manufacturer's own telematics (Cat, JCB, Volvo and Stihl among others). Drivers mark a trip as business or private in the ABAX Driver App. The ABAX Open API makes that data available outside the platform: vehicles, trips with odometer readings, equipment with its usage log, people and departments, and driving behaviour scores. That is what lets it be reported on and combined with your ERP, accounting and planning systems.

Which machines cost us more standing still than running?

Operating hours per machine from the ABAX usage log next to its lease or depreciation cost from accounting. Shows the excavator that ran forty hours last month against a fixed cost built for a hundred and sixty, before the next one is ordered.

Did we invoice every hour the rented machine ran?

Usage log hours per machine per site set against the hours on the rental invoice for that customer and period. The gap per contract comes out as a list, not as a discussion when the customer disputes the invoice.

How much of our fleet mileage is private, and does it match the payroll?

Frequently asked questions.

Who owns the data?

You do. It lands in your warehouse, on your cloud account. We don't resell or aggregate it. If you stop working with us, the warehouse stays yours and keeps running.

How fresh is the data?

Near real time for most operational systems. For heavier sources we schedule hourly or nightly. You pick based on what the reports need.

Do I need a warehouse already?

No. If you don't have one, we help you pick one and set it up as part of the first delivery. Common starting points are Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or a small Postgres start.

Do we need anything from ABAX to connect the warehouse?

Yes: an ABAX administrator account and API credentials from the ABAX developer portal. ABAX has a machine-to-machine flow (client credentials) for integrations limited to your own organisation, which is what a warehouse sync uses; ABAX switches the credentials to that flow on request. The API allows 60 requests per minute by default, so we schedule the sync to stay within that.

What happens with private trips in the warehouse?

Every trip in ABAX carries a business or private class and, if the driver set one, a purpose. We keep that class on every row, so private trips stay out of customer and job reporting and only count as totals where payroll or the tax file needs them. Who sees which rows is set per role in the warehouse, the same way ABAX limits access in its own admin.

Which ABAX data does the connector bring in?

Vehicles with their unit, driver and department; trips with start and finish odometer readings, business or private class and purpose; equipment with location, operating hours and usage log; people and departments; and driving behaviour scores per driver and for the organisation. The API gives live positions as a current snapshot, so we store them as a history over time rather than replaying them minute by minute.
