About Gatsby
Where an Instagram follow becomes a customer profile.
Gatsby was founded in 2016 by Brett Bernstein around a single idea: the best customers a Shopify brand has are usually already following it on Instagram, and most of that engagement disappears into a feed instead of into a CRM. The product runs Instagram giveaways and DM-based opt-in flows, captures email and phone numbers from people who tag, mention or message the brand, and pushes those contacts into Klaviyo, Attentive and the major Shopify loyalty apps. Each contact carries the social handle, follower count and the keyword that triggered the opt-in.
Klaviyo acquired Gatsby in August 2025 and the product is rolling into Klaviyo's omnichannel stack as the social-capture layer. The reason to land Gatsby data in a warehouse is that the picture of which Instagram campaigns produced which Shopify orders only exists when the social opt-in, the Klaviyo flow it triggered and the Shopify revenue it ended in are joined up. Cost per acquisition on a giveaway looks healthy on the Gatsby dashboard. Whether the cohort buys a second time, and at what margin, is a question that needs Shopify and the rest of the stack next to it.
