About Gatsby

Where an Instagram follow becomes a customer profile.

Gatsby was founded in 2016 by Brett Bernstein around a single idea: the best customers a Shopify brand has are usually already following it on Instagram, and most of that engagement disappears into a feed instead of into a CRM. The product runs Instagram giveaways and DM-based opt-in flows, captures email and phone numbers from people who tag, mention or message the brand, and pushes those contacts into Klaviyo, Attentive and the major Shopify loyalty apps. Each contact carries the social handle, follower count and the keyword that triggered the opt-in.

Klaviyo acquired Gatsby in August 2025 and the product is rolling into Klaviyo's omnichannel stack as the social-capture layer. The reason to land Gatsby data in a warehouse is that the picture of which Instagram campaigns produced which Shopify orders only exists when the social opt-in, the Klaviyo flow it triggered and the Shopify revenue it ended in are joined up. Cost per acquisition on a giveaway looks healthy on the Gatsby dashboard. Whether the cohort buys a second time, and at what margin, is a question that needs Shopify and the rest of the stack next to it.

What your Gatsby data is for

What you get once Gatsby is connected.

Reporting on social acquisition that holds up

Instagram opt-ins next to the Shopify orders they drove.

  • Cost per acquired customer per giveaway, with second-order rate beside it
  • Subscriber-to-buyer conversion per campaign keyword and per influencer tier
  • Revenue from Gatsby-sourced contacts against the rest of the Klaviyo list

Automation that closes the loop on social

Trigger downstream tools on the Instagram engagement Gatsby already saw.

  • Story mentions from a follower above a follower threshold push a Slack alert to the brand team
  • A second Shopify order from a Gatsby-sourced contact upgrades them in the loyalty programme automatically
  • Refunded orders pull the contact out of the influencer pipeline before another perk goes out

AI workflows on social and order data together

Use the social signal Gatsby captures to score who deserves the next perk.

  • Influencer-value scoring from follower count, engagement and second-order rate combined
  • Churn-risk scoring on Gatsby-sourced subscribers who stopped opening Klaviyo flows
  • Lookalike scoring that biases the next giveaway toward profiles that bought twice last quarter

Custom apps on your data

Internal tools on Gatsby data for teams that do not live in the Gatsby UI.

  • Influencer dashboard for the brand team that ranks contacts on revenue, not on follower count
  • Giveaway-performance app for marketing with cost, opt-ins and second-order revenue per campaign
  • Customer-success lookup with full Instagram handle and DM-opt-in history per contact

Real business questions

Answers you will finally get.

Which giveaway paid back its prize budget?

Cost per acquired contact next to second-order revenue from the same cohort, per campaign and per Instagram keyword. Splits the giveaway whose entrants buy a second time at full margin from the giveaway whose entrants opted in for the prize, never opened a Klaviyo flow and unsubscribed within thirty days.

Which Instagram followers are quietly our best customers?

Followers and engagement from Gatsby joined to Shopify revenue per contact, ranked on second-order rate and margin instead of follower count. Surfaces the micro-follower account that buys four times a year alongside the verified handle that opted in for the prize and never came back.

How much of our Gatsby list is genuinely new versus already on Klaviyo?

Email and phone match between Gatsby opt-ins and the existing Klaviyo profile base in the same period. Turns net new acquisition into a number you can defend, instead of a signup count that double-counts contacts the brand already had.

Value for everyone in the organisation

Where each function gets value.

For finance leaders

Giveaway prize cost and ad spend in the same picture as revenue per acquired cohort. The social channel stops being defended on opt-ins collected and starts being defended on payback against prize budget.

For sales leaders

Influencer ranking by orders driven, not by follower count. The brand team sees which contacts in the Gatsby list buy at full margin and which contacts opted in for the perk and disappeared.

For operations

Opt-in throughput, list-decay and unsubscribe rate of Gatsby cohorts over twelve months. Programme health is monitored as a trend, not rediscovered the day a campaign underperforms.

Ideas

What you can automate with Gatsby.

Pair with Klaviyo

Land Gatsby opt-ins in Klaviyo with the social context attached

Email and SMS opt-ins from Gatsby push into Klaviyo as profiles with the Instagram handle, follower count, trigger keyword and campaign source as profile properties. Welcome flows and segmentation run on the actual social context the contact came from instead of a generic source tag, and the post-acquisition Klaviyo metrics tie back to the giveaway that produced them.

Pair with Shopify

Tie Gatsby contacts to real Shopify buying behaviour

Shopify orders, refunds and customer history match against Gatsby opt-ins on email and phone, so each Gatsby-sourced contact carries first order, second order, lifetime revenue and refund rate. Giveaway reporting moves off opt-in counts and onto revenue and second-order rate per campaign, and influencer perks stop going to contacts whose orders all got refunded.

Pair with Mailchimp

Push Gatsby opt-ins into Mailchimp audiences

Brands that run their email on Mailchimp instead of Klaviyo land Gatsby opt-ins as audience members with social handle, campaign source and tag set attached. Welcome series and re-engagement journeys run on the same Instagram context Klaviyo brands get, without rebuilding the opt-in flow inside Mailchimp.

Pair with HubSpot

Send Gatsby influencer signal into HubSpot

Gatsby contacts with a high follower count or repeat-purchase pattern push into HubSpot as contacts with social handle, campaign source and influencer score on the record. Brand and partnership teams that run their pipeline in HubSpot pick up qualified influencer leads from the customer base instead of cold-prospecting on Instagram.

Pair with Slack

Alert Slack when a high-value follower engages

Story mentions, tags or DMs from contacts above a follower threshold or with a documented repeat-purchase history push a Slack alert to the brand channel within minutes. The team responds while the engagement is live instead of finding it in a weekly Gatsby export, and high-intent moments stop being missed because nobody was watching the inbox.

Pair with monday.com

Open monday.com items for the influencer outreach pipeline

Contacts that pass an influencer threshold in Gatsby open an item on a monday.com board with handle, follower count, last campaign and recent order history attached. The brand team works the outreach pipeline in monday.com with full social and commercial context next to each candidate, instead of copying handles between a spreadsheet and Instagram.

Data model

Tables we make available.

These are the 1 tables we currently pull from Gatsby into your warehouse. Query them directly in SQL, join them to the rest of your stack, or build reports on top.

  • People

Missing a table you need? We can extend the sync. Tell us what is missing and we will build it for you.

Your existing tools

Your data lands in a warehouse. Your BI tools read from it.

You keep the reporting tool you already have. We connect it to the warehouse where your Gatsby data lives.

Three steps

From Gatsby to answers in three steps.

01

Connect securely

OAuth authentication. Read-only by default. We sign a DPA and your admin keeps the keys.

02

Land in your warehouse

Data flows into your warehouse on your schedule. Near real time or nightly, your call. You own the data.

03

Reporting, automation, AI

We build the first dashboard, workflow or AI feature with you, then hand over the keys. Or we stay on for ongoing delivery.

Two ways to work with us

Pick the track that fits how you work.

Track 01

Self-serve

We set up the foundation. Your team builds on top.

  • Gatsby connector configured and running
  • Warehouse set up in your cloud account
  • Clean access for your Power BI, Fabric or Tableau team
  • Documentation on what's in the data model
  • Sync monitoring so you're warned before reports break

Best fit Teams that already have a BI analyst or data engineer and want to own the build.

Track 02

Done for you

We build the whole thing, end to end.

  • Everything in Self-serve
  • Dashboards built to the questions your team actually asks
  • Automations between your systems
  • AI workflows scoped to real tasks your team runs
  • Custom apps where a dashboard does not cut it
  • Ongoing delivery at a pace that fits your team

Best fit Teams without in-house BI or dev capacity. You tell us what you need and we deliver it.

Before you book

Frequently asked questions.

Who owns the data?

You do. It lands in your warehouse, on your cloud account. We don't resell or aggregate it. If you stop working with us, the warehouse stays yours and keeps running.

How fresh is the data?

Near real time for most operational systems. For heavier sources we schedule hourly or nightly. You pick based on what the reports need.

Do I need a warehouse already?

No. If you don't have one, we help you pick one and set it up as part of the first delivery. Common starting points are Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or a small Postgres start.

Klaviyo acquired Gatsby in 2025. Does the connector still make sense?

Yes. Gatsby keeps running as the social-capture layer and is rolling into Klaviyo's omnichannel stack over time. Whether you stay on the standalone Gatsby app or follow the Klaviyo rollout, the data your brand cares about, the Instagram opt-ins with handle, keyword and campaign source attached, still needs to land next to Shopify orders to be measured against second-order revenue.

Does the sync support multiple Shopify storefronts running Gatsby?

Yes. Each Gatsby account lands in its own schema, with a shared customer dimension on top. Holding groups and multi-brand operations get per-brand isolation and a deduped contact view at group level, so an Instagram follower who opted in across two of the brand's storefronts is not counted twice in cohort reporting.
