About Lightspeed Retail (R-Series)

Where the till, the stockroom and the webshop meet.

Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) is the POS behind a lot of independent Belgian and Dutch retailers: fashion boutiques, bike shops, jewellers, pet stores, specialty sport. It is the evolution of Vend, which Lightspeed bought in 2021, bolted onto the Canadian Lightspeed platform that started in Montreal in 2005. Unlike an ecom-first system, R-Series begins at the counter and extends outward to a webshop, not the other way around.

Inside R-Series you have sales, sale lines, payments, items, item matrices, inventory counts, categories, shops, registers, employees, customers, vendors, purchase orders and vendor returns. That is a rich operational picture, but the reports your accountant, your buyer and your merchandiser need sit across that data and your accounting, your marketing tool and your ecom channel. Pulling R-Series into a warehouse is where those questions stop needing a spreadsheet.

Real business questions

Answers you will finally get.

Which SKUs are making money per shop?

Sale lines joined to item cost and current landed cost, split by shop and category. Shows which items carry the store and which ones sell well but leave no margin once the supplier invoice is in.

Where is inventory drifting between shops?

Stock on hand per shop against sell-through rate per shop. Surfaces the SKU that is selling in the Antwerp shop and gathering dust in Ghent, so a transfer goes out instead of a fresh purchase order.

Does the end-of-day reconcile to the accounting ledger without a spreadsheet?

Register totals, payment-type splits and refunds pushed daily into Exact Online or Yuki as structured journal lines. The bookkeeper opens a clean day, not a tab full of R-Series exports.

Value for everyone in the organisation

Where each function gets value.

For finance leaders

Daily till reconciliation with the accounting ledger, not a month-end catch-up. Real margin per shop after supplier invoices and markdowns, ready on the first of the month.

For sales leaders

Buyers see margin, cover and supplier lead time in one screen, so reorder decisions sit on numbers instead of gut feel. Store managers see today against plan before the afternoon rush.

For operations

Inventory drift between shops, dead stock and supplier fill rate surface before they hurt. Transfers replace a second purchase order when the same SKU already sits in another shop.

Ideas

What you can automate with Lightspeed Retail (R-Series).

Pair with Exact Online

Post daily till totals to Exact Online

Register totals, payment types and refunds from Lightspeed Retail land daily in Exact Online as journal entries with the right VAT split. The end-of-day reconciles on its own, and the bookkeeper stops chasing exports to close the month.

Pair with Shopify

Run a single omnichannel view with Shopify

For retailers running R-Series in the shop and Shopify online, Data Panda stitches the same customer, SKU and order across both. Sales, returns and loyalty reporting hold up at group level instead of living in two disconnected dashboards.

Pair with Klaviyo

Feed POS buying history into Klaviyo

Customer purchase history from the till flows into Klaviyo as profile properties and events. In-store buyers receive campaigns based on what they bought in the shop, not just what they clicked, and flows stop treating a shop-only customer as a cold lead.

Pair with Akeneo

Push Akeneo product content to the POS catalogue

Enriched product records from Akeneo flow into R-Series items and item matrices, with the same descriptions, attributes and media the webshop uses. Staff on the floor see the same product story the customer saw online, and catalogue updates stop being a double data-entry job.

Three steps

From Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) to answers in three steps.

01

Connect securely

OAuth authentication. Read-only by default. We sign a DPA and your admin keeps the keys.

02

Land in your warehouse

Data flows into your warehouse on your schedule. Near real time or nightly, your call. You own the data.

03

Reporting, automation, AI

We build the first dashboard, workflow or AI feature with you, then hand over the keys. Or we stay on for ongoing delivery.

Two ways to work with us

Pick the track that fits how you work.

Track 01

Self-serve

We set up the foundation. Your team builds on top.

  • Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) connector configured and running
  • Warehouse set up in your cloud account
  • Clean access for your Power BI, Fabric or Tableau team
  • Documentation on what's in the data model
  • Sync monitoring so you're warned before reports break

Best fit Teams that already have a BI analyst or data engineer and want to own the build.

Track 02

Done for you

We build the whole thing, end to end.

  • Everything in Self-serve
  • Dashboards built to the questions your team actually asks
  • Automations between your systems
  • AI workflows scoped to real tasks your team runs
  • Custom apps where a dashboard does not cut it
  • Ongoing delivery at a pace that fits your team

Best fit Teams without in-house BI or dev capacity. You tell us what you need and we deliver it.

Before you book

Frequently asked questions.

Who owns the data?

You do. It lands in your warehouse, on your cloud account. We don't resell or aggregate it. If you stop working with us, the warehouse stays yours and keeps running.

How fresh is the data?

Near real time for most operational systems. For heavier sources we schedule hourly or nightly. You pick based on what the reports need.

Do I need a warehouse already?

No. If you don't have one, we help you pick one and set it up as part of the first delivery. Common starting points are Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or a small Postgres start.

Is this the same as Lightspeed eCom or Lightspeed Restaurant?

No. R-Series is the retail POS (the former Vend product, which Lightspeed bought in 2021). Lightspeed eCom (the former SEOshop webshop that Lightspeed bought in 2015) is the webshop product and K-Series is the restaurant POS. Data Panda has separate connectors for each, and if you run more than one we stitch them in the warehouse.

How are item matrices handled?

Items and their variants land in the warehouse with the matrix relationship intact, so a parent style and every colour-size SKU sit together. Margin and sell-through reports roll up and drill down without the variants exploding into flat rows.

We run several shops on one account. How does that land?

Each shop comes across with its own identifier, and sales, inventory and staff are joined to the right shop. Group reporting, transfers and same-store comparisons are ordinary queries in the warehouse instead of a merge job in Excel.
